EnVoyage Perfumes Launches New Perfume: ZELDA

>New Art Deco contemporary fragrance for women lauds the colorful life of Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, the first flapper of the Age of Jazz

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ZELDA by EnVoyage Perfumes PRLog (Press Release) - May 14, 2013 - Award-Winning perfumer Shelley Waddington of EnVoyage Perfumes’ new perfume for women is inspired by the life of Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald who symbolized a generation of fragrance and fashion.

“Zelda was the bright muse for all her husband’s writing, but also an artist in her own right who had been completely overshadowed by F. Scott Fitgerald’s fame”, said Waddington. “Few people really understood her importance. This was clearly a story that must be told. And, as an American woman perfumer, I tell stories with fragrance.”

Zelda was the legendary first flapper in the Age of Jazz. And the roaring 20’s was the decade of important perfumes like Mitsouko, Shalimar, Tabac Blond, and Chanel No.5. Waddington decided to use the hallmark materials of these vintage classics - precious naturals, resins, and tinctures - to make a new art deco signature.

“In choosing the notes to chronicle her life, I started with a heady magnolia to represent Zelda’s youth as a beautiful but wild and defiant belle from a “thoroughbred family” in the antebellum Deep South.” Zelda had written about smelling “white flowers perfuming midnight”, “sweet-smelling blossoms and night-blooming vines”, which inspired Waddington to bring white flowers of tuberose and gardenia into the heart accord, along with a creamy note to reflect Zelda’s blonde hair.

Because Zelda was a flapper in the Age of Jazz, the perfumer wanted bright spice and orange notes to represent this period of her life. And some Italian bergamot for her stay in Italy. Waddington added that “The spices lent an Oriental suggestion to the orange top notes that I especially liked for its vintage effect. Zelda adored the outrageous and unexpected, so I used the tiniest bit of a gorgeous Iranian galbanum to catapult the top from vintage to modern.”

Waddington added the quintessentially French notes of rose de mai and bois de rose to suggest Zelda’s years in Paris, and to complement the floral complex. She then began building the base with mousse de ch ne and santal, followed by a smoky tobacco accord spiked with some boozy notes to represent Zelda’s carefree party days,

“Zelda studied ballet under the famous Russian ballerina Madame Lubov Egorova, so I selected the all-natural Cuir de Russie that I composed in 2009. To this I enhanced the art deco profile by adding the notes of a classic ambreine accord; vanilla, resins, and tinctures”, noted Waddington, adding that “only the most beautiful and precious animalics of musk, castoreum, and civet could honor and exalt Zelda’s bright life and tragic descent into a final heart of darkness.
